Softball Recap: Oneida Indians vs. Coalfield Yellow Jackets
Oneida had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 4-16 to make it four. They lost 10-4 to the Coalfield Yellow Jackets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Yellow Jackets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in March.
Ashlyn Cotton made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Coalfield, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-2-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.
On Coalfield's side, Ashton Chamblee made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Chamblee was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Coalfield let Caroline Foster and Madison Jackson run wild. Foster went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Jackson got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Jackson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy McDaniel, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
Coming up, Oneida will head out on the road to challenge McCreary Central at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Coalfield, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against King's Academy at 6:00 p.m.
