Softball Recap: Round Rock Takes a Loss

Round Rock dropped their record down to 13-9 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Cedar Ridge Raiders, falling 8-2. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Dragons couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Cedar Ridge, the victory (which was their 17th in a row) raised their record to 18-3. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Cedar Ridge's part, Caitlin Benningfield spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. Benningfield has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, London Collins and Kaia Miske did most of the damage at the plate: Collins got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run, while Miske went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Miske has posted since back in February. Taylor Phillips was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Round Rock does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cedar Ridge, they will square off against Lake Belton at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Raiders will need to watch out since the Broncos have now posted at least ten runs in their last eight games.
