Basketball Recap: Unalakleet Picks Up Eighth Straight Win on the Road

Unalakleet put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They snuck past the Nome-Beltz Nanooks with a 48-43 victory. Given the Wolfpack's advantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Nanooks are ranked 27th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Nome-Beltz's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Benny Lie, who posted 12 points. That's the most points Lie has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Wookie Nichols, who had nine points.

Unalakleet's win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.6 points per game. As for Nome-Beltz, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Coincidentally, Unalakleet and Nome-Beltz will both be playing Lumen Christi the next time they take the court. Unalakleet will head out to face Lumen Christi at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, while Nome-Beltz will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
