Softball Recap: Craigmont Chiefs vs. Covington Chargers
Craigmont extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 22 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-13 in the process. They came up short against the Covington Chargers, falling 17-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-0 on Tuesday.
As for Covington, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-11-1 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
For Covington's part, Kinslee Hamm made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Hamm has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Coriana Brasfield was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abbi Lanley, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.
As of now, neither Craigmont nor Covington have any future games scheduled.
