Recap: Davenport Broncos vs. Lake Wales Highlanders
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Central, the Davenport Broncos were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They secured a 48-42 W over Lake Wales. This was payback for Davenport, who suffered a 47-37 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Sorayah Emilien continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Davenport's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiny Kim, who scored ten points.
Despite the loss, Lake Wales still got an impressive performance from Vanessa Squire, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Squire hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Tania Williams was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds.
Davenport's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Lake Wales, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Davenport the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Mater Brighton Lakes Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 18th. Mater Brighton Lakes Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last nine games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Lake Wales won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Lakeland at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. Lakeland will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 447th, while Lake Wales is ranked 139th).
