Baseball Game Preview: Dansville Mustangs vs. Hornell Red Raiders

Dansville is 2-8 against Hornell since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mustangs will challenge the Red Raiders at 4:45 p.m. Dansville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.

On Wednesday, Dansville didn't have quite enough to beat Wayland-Cohocton and fell 8-7.

Logan Kendall spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Jake Kreiley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Dansville is 5-1 when Kreiley posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Nolan Dezarn was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Hornell suffered their closest loss since May 6, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Livonia by a score of 7-5. The defeat continues a trend for the Red Raiders in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost five in a row.

Hornell saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt Evingham, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Dansville's record is now 8-5. As for Hornell, their record now sits at 3-10.

Hornell's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Dansville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .459. It's a different story for Hornell, though, as they've only averaged .310. Will they be able to contain Dansville's hitters?

Everything went Dansville's way against Hornell in their previous meeting back in April, as Dansville made off with an 11-5 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
