Baseball Recap: Downey Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Downey can now relate to. They fell just short of the La Canada Spartans by a score of 6-5 on Friday. That's two games in a row now that the Vikings have lost by just one run.

Downey got a good showing from Xavier Renteria, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Downey saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Fabian Lopez, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Downey has also been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 13 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-15 record this season. As for La Canada, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 18-11.

Downey does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for La Canada, they will challenge Ganesha at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Giants will roll in looking for their 17th straight win, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight.
