Baseball Game Preview: Augusta Panthers vs. Nicholas County Bluejackets

The Augusta Panthers will square off against the Nicholas County Bluejackets at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

It was a proper cat-fight when Augusta duked it out with Calvary Christian on Saturday. Augusta fell 6-3 to Calvary Christian. The Panthers have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Maddox Hesler was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Augusta's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Jesse Deiter also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Nicholas County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 10-3 to Bellevue.

Nicholas County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Robinson, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Cash Linville was another, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Augusta's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Nicholas County, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Augusta skirted past Nicholas County 2-0 when the teams last played last Friday. Will Augusta repeat their success, or does Nicholas County has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
