Basketball Recap: Denver Christian Comes Up Short

Denver Christian was the 73-39 winner over Byers when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Denver Christian Thunder were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 50-49 to the Byers Bulldogs. While the Thunder didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bulldogs 10-4 in the first quarter.

Denver Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ryan Wind, who went 6 for 10 en route to 12 points in addition to seven blocks and five boards. With that strong performance, Wind is now averaging an impressive 2.2 blocks per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Walker Politte, who posted nine points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Denver Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Byers' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cameron Eastwood led the charge by going 5 of 7 on his way to 10 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Quincy Eacret, who put up 12 points and five boards.

Denver Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Byers, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Denver Christian has already played their next contest (against Limon), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Byers will venture away from home to take on Genoa-Hugo/Karval at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Byers is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.1 points per game this season.
