Basketball Recap: Clinton-Massie Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Ty Martin and Baron Phipps

Clinton-Massie was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 37-33 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wilmington Hurricane. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 43-28 back in December of 2024.

Clinton-Massie's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Baron Phipps, who posted seven points and 11 rebounds, and Ty Martin, who put up six points and three steals. Phipps also posted two blocks, marking his first of the season.

Even though they lost, Clinton-Massie smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matches.

Clinton-Massie's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Wilmington, they pushed their record up to 5-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Clinton-Massie has already played their next contest, a 64-49 defeat against Bethel-Tate on the 21st. As for Wilmington, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 60-39 loss against Ross on the 18th.
