Basketball Recap: Norfolk Academy Beats Norfolk Collegiate for Their Second Straight Victory

Norfolk Academy won the last time they faced Norfolk Collegiate, and Maria Delyannis did her part to make sure it happened again. The Norfolk Academy Bulldogs strolled past the Norfolk Collegiate Mighty Oaks with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 40-23 thanks in part to Delyannis, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last 12 games she's played dating back to last season.

The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Harvey, who posted three points along with six boards and three steals. What's more, she also racked up two assists, the most she's had since back in January of 2024.

Norfolk Collegiate's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Catherine Wells, who had five points and six rebounds. Sanaa Harris was another key player, putting up six points.

The win made it two in a row for Norfolk Academy and bumps their season record up to 7-3. As for Norfolk Collegiate, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.

Norfolk Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 39-20 victory against Christchurch School on the 9th. As for Norfolk Collegiate, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 52-37 win against Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association on the 10th.
