Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Houston

Houston came out on top against Fairlawn on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Jets with a sharp 8-1 win. Eight seems to be a good number for the Wildcats as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Makenna Vondenhuevel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Olivia Maier and Madison Plunkett did most of the damage at the plate: Maier got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run, while Plunkett went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

The win was the third in a row for Houston, bringing their record up to 13-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Fairlawn, they dropped their record down to 3-12 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Houston will head out to take on Tippecanoe at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 3.3, the Red Devils 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Fairlawn, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Troy Christian at 5:00 p.m.
