Softball Game Preview: Belfry Pirates vs. Letcher County Central Cougars

The Belfry Pirates will head out to take on the Letcher County Central Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Belfry took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They never let Mingo Central get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Miners recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Letcher County Central). Everything went their way against Breathitt County on Tuesday as they made off with a 14-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Kelsey Bentley made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Bentley was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Letcher County Central got a big performance out of Addison Collier, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave Collier a new career-high. Amirah Cook also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Belfry pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Letcher County Central, the win got them back to even at 8-8.
