Softball Recap: Herrin Wins Going Away Against Benton

Benton typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday Herrin proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Rangers. The Tigers have beaten the Rangers the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Rangers has come to flipping the script.

Brooke Hudgens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.

On the hitting side, Madison Monchino was a standout: she got on base in two of her five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Remy James also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Herrin's record is now 9-10. As for Benton, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-8.

Coming up, Herrin will welcome Vienna at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Benton, they will venture away from home to challenge Massac County at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
