Recap: Monument Valley Cougars vs. Santa Fe Indian Braves
The Monument Valley Cougars came tearing into Saturday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 51-39 win over Santa Fe Indian. For Monument Valley, this counts as revenge for the 50-47 defeat Santa Fe Indian walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.
Monument Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shikeeya Hudson led the charge by scoring 18 points. That's the first time this season that Hudson scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Wilson, who scored 14 points.
Monument Valley's win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Santa Fe Indian, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
Monument Valley and Wendover will face off at 5:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Wendover is ranked 28th, while Monument Valley is ranked 31st). Santa Fe Indian will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Raton at 8:15 p.m. on January 11, 2024.
