Softball Recap: Laguna Hills Hawks vs. Costa Mesa Mustangs
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Crean Lutheran, Laguna Hills was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They walked away with an 8-5 win over the Costa Mesa Mustangs.

Hannah Russell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles.
In other batting news, Laguna Hills let Cara Haynes and Kennedy Patterson run wild. Haynes went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double, while Patterson went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run. That double was Haynes' first of the season. Another player making a difference was Amanda Garcia, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Laguna Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Costa Mesa only posted an OBP of .290.
Laguna Hills' record is now 4-9. As for Costa Mesa, they moved to 8-3-1 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
Looking ahead, Laguna Hills will challenge Santa Ana at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Costa Mesa, they will square off against Compton Early College at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
