Decatur has gone a perfect 6-0 against Kent-Meridian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Golden Gators will be playing at home against the Royals at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Decatur has five straight wins, Kent-Meridian has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Decatur barely beat Federal Way the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Golden Gators blew past the Eagles 9-2 on Thursday. The Golden Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.
Decatur got a big performance out of Tyler Buol, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Cervantes (CJ) Gatterson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Decatur kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Federal Way only managed five hits.
Meanwhile, Kent-Meridian fell victim to White River and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Hornets, falling 15-0.
Decatur's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-1-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Kent-Meridian, their loss dropped their record down to 3-15.
Kent-Meridian's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Decatur hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. It's a different story for Kent-Meridian, though, as they've only averaged .153. Will they be able to contain Decatur's hitters?
Decatur took their victory against Kent-Meridian in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Will the Golden Gators repeat their success, or do the Royals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
