The Lake Arthur Tigers will challenge the Welsh Greyhounds at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lake Arthur knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Welsh likes a good challenge.
Lake Arthur is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy on Tuesday as Lake Arthur made off with a 19-3 victory. The result was nothing new for Lake Arthur, who have now won four matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Gabby Sellers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance gave her a new career-low in hits. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in both of her plate appearances. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Lake Arthur got a massive performance out of Kynli Newsom, who scored three runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most runs Newsom has posted over her last ten games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenli Garcia, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Lake Arthur always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .885. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Welsh came up short against Lafayette Christian Academy on Tuesday and fell 8-5.
Alexis Hayes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits.
At the plate, Welsh saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kynnedy Nunn, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. Maggie Johnson was another, scoring a run while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Lake Arthur's win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Welsh, they dropped their record down to 2-4 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lake Arthur hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .383. However, it's not like Welsh struggles in that department as they've averaged .370. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
