Basketball Recap: Incarnate Word Academy Comes Up Short

Incarnate Word Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 48-42 heartbreaker at the hands of the Gregory-Portland Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Angels of the 55-42 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2024.

Incarnate Word Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Gregory-Portland, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-4.

Looking ahead, Incarnate Word Academy will challenge Holy Cross at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Angels' defense better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 63.7 points per game this season. As for Gregory-Portland, they will be taking part in a tournament against Aransas Pass at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
