Volleyball Recap: Montello Gets Past Markesan

The Montello Hilltoppers were able to grind out a solid victory over the Markesan Hornets on Saturday, taking the matchup 2-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hilltoppers.

Montello's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Emily Barganz led the charge by getting 10 assists, five kills, and three aces. The team also got some help from Theoree Larson, who had eight digs and five kills.

Markesan's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brynn Jackowski, who had 14 digs and a solo block. Mia Vande Berg was another key player, getting seven digs, five kills, and a solo block.

The win improved Montello's record to 22-12. Markesan (9-24) has now lost six in a row.

Markesan will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Winnebago Lutheran Academy at 7:00 p.m. on the 20th.
