Softball Recap: Kolbe-Cathedral Comes Up Short

Kolbe-Cathedral dropped to 6-9 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 29-2 to the Bethel Wildcats. Having soared to a lofty 25 runs in the game before, the Cougars couldn't push the score so high this time.

Jaylynn Benjamin and Zaniya Menard stepped up to the plate in a big way. Benjamin got on base in both of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run, while Menard earned one run and three stolen bases. Benjamin is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

As for Bethel, the win got them back to even at 8-8. They haven't had any issues with Kolbe-Cathedral recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

On Bethel's side, Morgan Helbig was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Helbig was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Alexa Brady was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Giselle Parisi, who went 3-for-5 with four runs, two doubles, and one triple.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Kolbe-Cathedral will head out to challenge Weston at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Bethel, they will venture away from home to square off against Masuk at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
