Softball Recap: Shelby Sets Scoring Season-High Against Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shelby). They never let the Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy Gryphons get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Golden Lions in their matchups with the Gryphons: they've now won five in a row.

Kennedy Collins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She also put up three walks, which were her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Shelby let Matti Church and Caroline Curtis run wild. Church scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Curtis scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Church a new career-high in RBI (two). Julianna Vaughan was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Shelby always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Shelby's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-11. As for Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Shelby will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Gryphons: the pair will be back at it again later today.
