Lovejoy proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by nine) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Dutchtown Bulldogs 10-9. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 15-12 back in August.
Taylin Freeman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 11 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kennedi Harley, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Kerri McGhee was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Lovejoy's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-5. As for Dutchtown, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lovejoy will welcome Banneker at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.8 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Dutchtown, they will host Sandy Creek at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
