Preview: Socorro Bulldogs vs. Eastwood Troopers
Socorro is 0-10 against Eastwood since November of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Socorro Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eastwood Troopers at 6:00 p.m. Socorro has now lost 14 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 2.
Socorro suffered their biggest defeat since December 29, 2023 on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Pebble Hills, falling 71-41. Socorro has struggled against Pebble Hills recently, as their game on Tuesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Eastwood stacked a 14th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They really took it to Coronado for the full four quarters, racking up a 64-16 victory on the road. 64 seems to be a good number for Eastwood as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Eastwood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Amaya Williams led the charge by scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Williams has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Olivia Morales, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Socorro dropped their record down to 6-21 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Eastwood, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.
Socorro was dealt a bruising 59-27 loss at the hands of Eastwood when the teams last played back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Williams, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds.
