Recap: Antelope Rams vs. Yuma Criminals
After a string of three wins, Antelope's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell victim to a rough 17-9 loss at the hands of the Yuma Criminals. Antelope was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Yuma apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Karyme Arana and Marissa Jimenez stepped up to the plate in a big way. Arana went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and a double, while Jimenez scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Jimenez has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Alaina Jaime was another key contributor, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Even though they lost, Antelope didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with seven strikeouts. That's the most strikeouts they've managed all season.
On Yuma's side, Monika Ordaz made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. Ordaz was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Derryel Medel was a standout: she scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Saige Sievert, who scored three runs while going 4-for-5.
Antelope's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-2. As for Yuma, their victory ended a ten-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-6.
Antelope will take on Anthem Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Anthem Prep's favor is that they have posted big run totals in their last five matchups. As for Yuma, they will head out on the road to take on Paradise Honors at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
