Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Defeat Ends UR Academy's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but UR Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They came up short against the Walnut Grove Christian Christian Warriors, falling 70-49. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 57-45 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, UR Academy still got an impressive performance from Jordan Miller, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 21 boards. Miller's afternoon made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Gabriel Thompson was another key player, putting up 20 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.

Even though they lost, UR Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Walnut Grove Christian found their leader in sophomore AJ Curerton, who posted 41 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Curerton has scored at least a third of Walnut Grove Christian's points. Another player making a difference was Jack Bonagura, who scored 19 points.

UR Academy's loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Walnut Grove Christian, their record now sits at 12-10.

UR Academy has already played their next game (against Mountain View Christian Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Walnut Grove Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-47 win against Providence Classical on the 6th.
