Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Haley Avendano and Evelyn Reyes Lead Adams City to Victory

There's no place like home for Adams City, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They walked away with a 37-27 win over the Thornton Trojans on Thursday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 28-25 back in January.

Leading Adams City to victory were Evelyn Reyes and Haley Avendano. Reyes posted two points along with 16 boards and four blocks, while Avendano had 12 points and five steals. The dominant performance also gave Avendano a new career-high in assists (three). Erika Contreras-Gomez was another key player, putting up four points and ten rebounds.

Adams City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 21 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Adams City's record is now 4-13. As for Thornton, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Adams City will square off against Skyview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Skyview will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Adams City surely won't give up without a fight. Thornton has already played their next match (against Gateway), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
