Baseball Recap: Atlantic County Institute of Tech Takes a Loss

Atlantic County Institute of Tech extended their losing streak to seven on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 2-12 in the process. They lost 9-3 to the Buena Chiefs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Buena this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-2 on Tuesday.

As for Buena, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-6. Considering they have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Buena's part, Dylan O'Connell made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over 7.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. O'Connell is becoming a predictor of Buena's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 3-6 when he doesn't). O'Connell was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last five times he's played.

In other batting news, Jaevon Alexander was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jalexis Agosto-Sanchez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Atlantic County Institute of Tech will square off against Oakcrest at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Buena, they will take on St. Joseph at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
