Softball Preview: Lubbock Westerners vs. Amarillo Sandies

Lubbock is 0-4 against Amarillo since February of 2022 but things could change on Wednesday. The Westerners will take on the Sandies at 4:00 p.m.

Lubbock fell victim to Lubbock-Cooper and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Pirates, falling 19-0. The shutout was out of character for the Westerners seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in February.

Meanwhile, Amarillo made easy work of Tascosa on Tuesday and carried off a 15-8 victory. The result was nothing new for the Sandies, who have now won 17 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Brianna Cloud was incredible, firing off three home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-4. Those three home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Gonzalez, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Cloud wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Amarillo lost a few balls and finished the game with six home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Amarillo has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-7-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lubbock, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-9-1.
