Lake Highland Prep is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will be playing at home against the Windermere Prep Lakers at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Wednesday, Lake Highland Prep was able to grind out a solid win over Freedom, taking the game 11-6. The Highlanders haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Emma Kennedy and Kalina Voorhees made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Kennedy struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Voorhees tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Kennedy has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Kennedy scored two runs and stole Four bases. while going 1-for-3, while Voorhees went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. With that strong performance, Kennedy is now averaging an impressive 1.4 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Frances Liffey, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-3. Those stolen bases marked the first that she snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiley Green, who scored a run and stole Six bases. while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Windermere Prep came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Warriors get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. The contest marked the Lakers' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Carsha Campbell made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Campbell was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Cierra Walker and Kylie Konstand did most of the damage at the plate: Walker scored two runs while going 1-for-2, while Konstand scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Rayane Martinelly, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.
Windermere Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as City of Life Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .300.
Windermere Prep pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Highland Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lake Highland Prep has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .491. However, it's not like Windermere Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .526. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
