Preview: Amelia County Raiders vs. Westmoreland Eagles
Amelia County has played every game this season on their home court, but they'll have to hit the road on Wednesday. They will take on the Westmoreland Eagles in a holiday battle at 6:30 p.m. at. Hopefully Amelia County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
Last Friday, Amelia County made easy work of Prince Edward County and carried off a 69-46 victory. Given Amelia County's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while Prince Edward County is ranked 412th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Amelia County had a senior duo take command as JUSTIN PERRY scored 22 points along with nine rebounds and JAIDEN SQUIRE scored 14 points along with three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which PERRY has scored at least 25% of Amelia County's points. JUSTIN SQUIRE was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Westmoreland lost to Bruton at home by a decisive 63-45 margin on Saturday. Westmoreland has struggled against Bruton recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Amelia County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Westmoreland, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
