Softball Game Preview: Mountain Island Charter Raptors vs. Pine Lake Prep Pride

The Mountain Island Charter Raptors will take on the Pine Lake Prep Pride at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Mountain Island Charter took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They never let Langtree Charter Academy get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory.

Izzy Leppert made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base.

Leppert wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Reagan Hart, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Pine Lake Prep ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past Lake Norman Charter 3-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pride.

Emery Jensen spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit and racked up 20 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

Mountain Island Charter's win bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Pine Lake Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.

Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mountain Island Charter hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Pine Lake Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .394. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
