Recap: Northwestern Trojans vs. Indian Land Warriors

The Northwestern Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 43-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Indian Land. Northwestern was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Indian Land apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

Northwestern's loss came despite strong showings from Jayla Gaiton and Alexandria Howze. Gaiton scored eight points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Howze scored seven points along with two steals.

Indian Land found their leader in underclassman Skylar Young, who scored 12 points along with three steals. Ava Pensule was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.

Northwestern bumped their record down to 1-15 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Indian Land, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-10.

Northwestern on the road again on Tuesday and play against York at 6:15 p.m. on January 16th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (York is ranked 196th, while Northwestern is ranked 215th). As for Indian Land, they will square off against Central Cabarrus at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Central Cabarrus focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Wednesday.
