Basketball Recap: Travelers Rest Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Travelers Rest won the last time they faced Carolina Academy and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Travelers Rest Devildogs took down the Carolina Academy Trojans 32-18. Given the Devildogs' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while the Trojans are ranked 226th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Carolina Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trinity Mangle, who posted four points and six rebounds.

Travelers Rest is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.8 points per game. As for Carolina Academy, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Travelers Rest wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 51-28 victory against Southside on the 19th. As for Carolina Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 41-36 defeat against Berea on the 19th.
