Basketball Preview: Spruce Timberwolves vs. North Mesquite Stallions

Spruce is 0-5 against the Stallions since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Spruce Timberwolves will be playing at home against the North Mesquite Stallions at 6:30 p.m. Spruce comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Last Friday, Spruce suffered a tough 70-49 loss at the hands of the Spartans. While losing is never fun, Spruce can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1380th, while the Spartans are ranked 416th).

Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 14 more assists than your opponent, a fact North Mesquite proved on Friday. They blew past Adams 60-38. The victory was just what North Mesquite needed coming off of a 64-44 defeat in their prior game.

The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Micah Vaughn and Keiontay Marsh. Vaughn had a solid game and scored six points along with eight rebounds. Meanwhile, Marsh did his best for the losing side, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Spruce dropped their record down to 0-21 with that defeat, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for North Mesquite, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-12 record this season.

Spruce was taken down by the Stallions 69-32 when the teams last played back in January. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Spruce was down 40-13.
