Basketball Recap: Hawkinsville Red Devils vs. Telfair County Trojans

If Hawkinsville was feeling good fresh off their 58-35 takedown of Dooly County last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hawkinsville Red Devils lost 54-32 to the Telfair County Trojans on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 410th, while the Trojans are ranked 168th).

Despite the loss, Hawkinsville still got an impressive performance from Alicia Newman, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards. Newman has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Myah Brown also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Hawkinsville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 20 consecutive matches.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Telfair County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Passion Clay, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 14 points and seven steals. Aamoni Posley was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Hawkinsville's loss dropped their record down to 8-18. As for Telfair County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season.
