Softball Game Preview: River Forest Ingots vs. Wheeler Bearcats

For the second straight game, River Forest will face off against Wheeler. The Ingots will face off against the Bearcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. River Forest has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with seven straight defeats, while Wheeler will come in with five straight victories.

River Forest lost 12-1 to Wheeler on Monday.

For Wheeler's part, Nora Howell was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Howell has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Rileyann Welch and Abby Allen did most of the damage at the plate: Welch went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Allen went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs Allen has posted since back in May of 2024. Isabela Lira was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Wheeler was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in eight consecutive contests.

Wheeler's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for River Forest, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
