Preview: Maize Eagles vs. Hutchinson Salthawks
Maize is 8-2 against Hutchinson since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Maize Eagles on the road again and play against the Hutchinson Salthawks on January 26th.
Last Tuesday, Maize was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 50-44 to Andover Central. Maize has struggled against Andover Central recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Even though Hutchinson has not done well against Derby recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Hutchinson walked away with a 64-51 win over Derby. The win was just what Hutchinson needed coming off of a 78-42 loss in their prior contest.
Maize's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Hutchinson, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2.
Maize came up short against Hutchinson when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 62-49. Can Maize avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
