Football Recap: Plainview Skates Past Lutheran-Northeast with Ease

Plainview extended their winning streak to five on Thursday, bumping them up to 7-1. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 78-8 win over the Lutheran-Northeast Eagles. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by 24 points or more this season.

Plainview's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gage Walton, who rushed for 55 yards and three scores on only five carries. Walton has been hot, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kobe Maertins, who rushed for 65 yards and one touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Plainview was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 301 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Plainview didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Braedon Kment, Colt Hoffman, and Kohen Lingenfelter picked up one apiece.

As for Lutheran-Northeast, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 121st, while Plainview is ranked 12th).

When it comes to explaining why Lutheran-Northeast lost, don't look at Charlie Sullivan. Despite the final result, he rushed for 78 yards and one TD, and also picked up 50 receiving yards. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 68 yards.

Looking ahead, Plainview will square off against Alma at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pirates will be up against the Cardinals' rather soft defense (which has allowed 45.14 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. Lutheran-Northeast does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
