Softball Recap: Honaker Triumphs

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Honaker ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-11 victory over the Chilhowie Warriors. The game was the first time the Tigers have beaten the Warriors on their field since May 20, 2024.

Gracie Shelton made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 8.1 innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Shelton was even better at the plate, going 4-for-6 with four RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophie Campbell, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Madalyn Dye was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one double.

Honaker kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive contests.

Honaker is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Chilhowie, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-3.

As of now, neither Honaker nor the Warriors have any future games scheduled.
