Baseball Game Preview: Evergreen Valley Cougars vs. Leland Chargers

For the second straight game, Evergreen Valley will face off against Leland. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

On Wednesday, Evergreen Valley wound up with the same score they had in their last game (4-3), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.

For Leland's part, they got a great performance from Samuel Mao as he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched.

At the plate, Jayden Visperas was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Canter, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Leland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .364 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Evergreen Valley dropped their record down to 9-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Leland, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Evergreen Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Leland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
