Football Game Preview: Lafayette Commodores vs. Hernando Tigers

The Lafayette Commodores will face off against the Hernando Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Friday, Lafayette beat Lewisburg 31-20. The Commodores haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lafayette to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kamaron Pritchard, who rushed for 90 yards and a pair of TDs. Those 90 rushing yards gave Pritchard a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lafayette was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 266 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 158 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Lafayette's defense stepped up as well, laying out Jacob Manns. five times. Xavion Williams refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. He was another major factor on D, picking up 1.5 sacks and making seven total tackles (3.0 for loss).

While Hernando didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-8), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Center Hill with a sharp 38-17 victory on Friday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 21 points or more this season.

Hernando's win came from a few key players Lafayette will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Asher Lawson, who threw for 114 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes. Reid Sanders was Lawson's top target, picking up 43 receiving yards and one score, while also punching in one TD on the ground.

Hernando's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Lafayette, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
