Basketball Recap: Gray Collegiate Academy Skates Past Midland Valley with Ease

Gray Collegiate Academy came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 41.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Midland Valley Mustangs 88-50. Given the War Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Mustangs are ranked 71st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Gray Collegiate Academy to victory were Levi Ball and Lamont (Lj) Britt. Ball dropped a double-double on 17 points and 17 boards, while Britt went 6 of 10 en route to 18 points in addition to six assists and six rebounds. Britt continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jayden Rowe, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 13 points.

Gray Collegiate Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.5 offensive rebounds per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.5.

Gray Collegiate Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.3 points per game. As for Midland Valley, with the defeat, they broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-5.

Coincidentally, Gray Collegiate Academy and Midland Valley will both be playing North Augusta the next time they take the court. Midland Valley will head out to face North Augusta at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Gray Collegiate Academy will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
