Basketball Recap: Lexington Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Dutch Fork

On Friday, Lexington faced Dutch Fork in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Lexington Wildcats took a 45-31 bruising from the Dutch Fork Silver Foxes. The match marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Sydni Anderson and Izzy Saville certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Anderson dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Saville posted seven points and four steals. Saville is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. Gabby Dunat also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Lexington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Dutch Fork got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Aaliyah Lee out in front who had eight points along with five assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Michaela Fairwell, who went 6 for 13 to rack up 12 points and four steals.

Lexington's defeat dropped their record down to 14-4. As for Dutch Fork, their win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lexington will square off against White Knoll at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lexington is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.7 points per game this season. As for Dutch Fork, they will take on River Bluff at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dutch Fork is facing River Bluff at the right time seeing as River Bluff is stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
