Baseball Game Preview: Foothill Knights vs. San Clemente Tritons

The Foothill Knights will take on the San Clemente Tritons at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Foothill's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so San Clemente's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Foothill is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Millikan 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since April 1st.

Gavin Lauridsen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He is becoming a predictor of Foothill's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 10-1 (and 8-10 when he doesn't). Lauridsen was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Lauridsen wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Patrick Petrossi, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave Petrossi a new career-high.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for San Clemente, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. Everything went their way against Westlake on Friday as they made off with an 8-0 victory. The Tritons not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 22nd (when they won 12-1).

San Clemente pushed their record up to 19-10 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Foothill, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-11.

Foothill was able to grind out a solid victory over San Clemente when the teams last played back in April of 2023, winning 6-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
