Preview: KIPP Atlanta Collegiate Warriors vs. Therrell Panthers
The KIPP Atlanta Collegiate Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the Therrell Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. KIPP Atlanta Collegiate is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
KIPP Atlanta Collegiate suffered their biggest loss since November 20, 2023 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 55-20 loss at the hands of North Cobb Christian. While losing is never fun, KIPP Atlanta Collegiate can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 511th, while North Cobb Christian is ranked 200th).
Therrell fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They walked away with a 44-35 victory over Coretta Scott King YWLA on Tuesday. That nine points margin sets a new team best for Therrell this season.
Therrell's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emani Scott, who scored 19 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Scott has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Azil Hazzard, who scored 16 points.
KIPP Atlanta Collegiate's defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Therrell, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-8 record this season.
KIPP Atlanta Collegiate strolled past Therrell when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a score of 37-19. The rematch might be a little tougher for KIPP Atlanta Collegiate since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
