Basketball Game Preview: Downtown Magnets Suns vs. Sylmar Spartans

Downtown Magnets is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They managed a 57-51 victory over Triumph Charter.

It was another big night for Patrick Lei, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten boards. He has been hot, having also posted five or more steals the last five times he's played. Justin Huang was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Meanwhile, Sylmar came tearing into Thursday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points), and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 85-70 win over the Tigers.

Downtown Magnets better keep an eye on Andrew Galvez. He was instrumental in Sylmar's win, going 11-for-22 on his way to 30 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. Galvez is becoming a predictor of Sylmar's success: when he posts at least 25 points the team is 4-2 (and 7-16 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Tim Tanner, who shot 57% from the field to rack up 18 points along with seven boards and six assists.

Sylmar was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 12.6.

Downtown Magnets pushed their record up to 23-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.6 points over those games. As for Sylmar, their win bumped their record up to 11-18.
