Softball Game Preview: Kempsville Chiefs vs. Ocean Lakes Dolphins

The Kempsville Chiefs will head out to challenge the Ocean Lakes Dolphins at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kempsville is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.

While Kempsville's victory against Landstown wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Chiefs narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Eagles 5-3.

Meanwhile, Ocean Lakes earned a 7-4 victory over Cox on Tuesday. The Dolphins haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Sam Patterson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Devynn Sawyer was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. Kaitlyn Wilms also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Sawyer wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Ocean Lakes kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cox only managed four hits.

Kempsville's record now sits at 5-1. As for Ocean Lakes, their record is now an identical 5-1.
