Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Metro-East Lutheran

Metro-East Lutheran hadn't done well against Southwestern recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Knights won by a run and slipped past the Piasa Birds 6-5. The win was nothing new for the Knights as they're now sitting on four straight.

Jacob Kober made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Drake Luebbert, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Metro-East Lutheran: the team is 9-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Thijson Heard was another key player, going 1-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.

Metro-East Lutheran kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.

Metro-East Lutheran's record is now 13-7. As for Southwestern, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-14.

Looking ahead, Metro-East Lutheran will head out to square off against Breese Central at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Southwestern, they will be playing at home against Staunton at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
