Basketball Recap: Isabella Mustangs vs. Verbena Red Devils
Isabella was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 27th straight loss dating back to last season. They took a hard 64-45 fall against the Verbena Red Devils. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-52 on December 3rd.
Verbena found their leader in sophomore Jaxson Kelley, who went 13 of 28 en route to 27 points and six rebounds. Those 27 points set a new season-high mark for Kelley. Another player making a difference was Kamari Ceasar, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.
Isabella's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Verbena, their victory ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-6.
Isabella will venture away from home to square off against Thorsby at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Verbena, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Notasulga at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Notasulga's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
